The Arc of Attrition and The Arc 50 are point-to-point extreme coastal races taking in the stunning and dramatic Cornish Coastpath with competitors running in challenging winter conditions.

The races have a strict cut-offs. With checkpoints approximately 20 miles apart, competitors will need the ability to be self-sufficient for long periods of time.

As safety is our primary concern, competitors will need to carry mandatory kit at all times and will be subject to random kit checks throughout the event. We would strongly recommend and advise the use of your own support crew.  The cost of entry includes the hire of a compulsory GPS tracking device which allows race HQ (and your friends and family) to track your progress online throughout the event.

Although it follows a way-marked route, this is a self-navigation event and ONLY suitable for experienced ultrarunners.

Arc of Attrition

The UKs toughest winter 100mile ultra footrace. Before entering please read this event guide carefully and fully. The Arc of Attrition is an extreme winter 100mile footrace with competitors running in challenging winter conditions.

The Arc of Attrition is a point-to-point race from Coverack to Porthtowan taking in 100miles of stunning and dramatic Cornish coast-path and will complete an Arc around the entire south west foot of Cornwall. The race has a strict 36hour cut-off with additional checkpoint and safety cut-offs on route. With checkpoints approximately 20 miles apart, competitors will need the ability to be self-sufficient for long periods of time.

The extreme nature of this event means it has been awarded 100M status towards UTMB qualification.

Arc 50

The Arc50 is a point-to-point race from The Minack Theatre, Porthcurno to Porthtowan taking in 50miles of stunning and dramatic Cornish coast-path. By passing Land’s End it will complete an Arc around the extreme south west tip of Cornwall. The race has a strict 15.5 hour cut-off with additional checkpoint and safety cut-offs on route. Competitors will need the ability and experience of being self-sufficient for long periods of time in potentially extreme weather conditions.

The event has been awarded 100K status towards UTMB qualification.

We reserve the right to refuse an entry if we believe you do not have the right level of experience to compete in this event safely. If this is the case we will refund any monies paid in full.

Arc of Attrition

Although it follows a way-marked route, this is a self-navigation event and ONLY suitable for experienced ultra-runners. There is an entry requirement of at least a 100km finish (or Arc50 finish) and considerable experience of night time running.

Please note that the event has an average DNF rate of over 50%.

Arc 50

Although it follows a way-marked route, this is a self-navigation event and ONLY suitable for runners with some ultra experience. The route follows the cliff path and the terrain can be arduous and follows the cliff edge in places. There is an entry requirement of a previous, at least 50km ultra, finish. Also bear in mind that the later part of this race will be running in the dark at night and you should ideally have had some experience of night time running prior to the event.

Have a read through some of the praise for this epic event below and check out the reviews on our Facebook page HERE. Please leave us a review after you complete the event!

“I ran the Arc 50 on Saturday with a group from Bude Rats. The marshalls were so supportive at each of the points along the way. At St Ives, they couldn’t do enough for you and it was lovely to see some of the 100milers being supported by arc angels. The finish was great, and it was a very personal touch to be given the medal by Jane. Again, once inside the race headquarters, the angels couldn’t do enough for you. Thank you!”

– Maryl Steyn

“Just completed the ARC50. Great event, well organised and great Marshall’s/angels.”

The course is mostly coastal trail although there are some short sections of road where the coast-path shares the public highway.

The coast path is well signed with the National Trail acorn symbols. There will be no temporary event specific signage except in a few key locations. Please note that you are expected to run on and follow the on the Coast Path National Trail at all times. Taking a different route at any point risks disqualification or time penalty.

Race starts at Coverack and finishes at Porthtowan.

Particular care needs to be taken at the following points to ensure you follow the official coast path:

  • Kynance Cove
  • Cape Cornwall
  • Botallack
  • Zennor Head
  • Hayle
  • Mexico Towans
  • Dunes of Doom
  • Godrevy Head

At Kynance Cove, follow the service track instead of crossing the beach for safety. Participants do not have to go around the complete headland at Cape Cornwall or around St Ives Island. On the approach to Portreath, come down the valley rather than going onto the headland for safety reasons. See route description for details.

After this time MudCrew will not be able to accommodate any changes, transfers, deferrals, cancellations or refunds. If you do defer your entry, you will receive an email on or close to the entry opening of the event you have deferred to. This will invite you to take up your deferred entry. You need to respond to this email within the 30 day validity timeframe to confirm your entry. MudCrew cannot be liable for whatever reason for emails which have not been delivered and it is your responsibility to contact us should you not receive your deferral email. There is a fee payable when you take up your deferral to cover admin and/or for the difference in event price. Please remember that your option to defer is only valid for the 30days from the date that the event entry opens.

Clothing and Merchandise.

Should your entry include additional clothing or merchandise then this must be collected from race registration when it is open. This can be done in person or someone can collect on your behalf. Alternatively, if you do not attend the event, then you can contact MudCrew in the 30days following and arrange for your merchandise to be posted to you. This will be subject to additional packaging and postal charges. After 30 days, all unclaimed merchandise will be offered for general re-sale and or donated to charity.

Event Cancellation.

Should MudCrew need to cancel an event for a reason within their control, they will issue participants with a credit that may be used to transfer to another MudCrew event within one year. MudCrew are not liable to issue any refunds when events are cancelled by reason of factors not in their control.
